Heartbeats, in conjunction with the Auckland University Exercise Physiology Department, is launching a new type of exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation platform in New Zealand.
Based on proven and successful programmes overseas, the ‘CARDIO’ programme goes well beyond the programmes currently delivered by the public healthcare sector.
– Three-month (12 weeks) duration, with gym-based sessions twice a week, guided by qualified Exercise Physiologists
– Ongoing clinical monitoring by qualified cardiac rehabilitation nurse specialist(s)
– Individualised programme for specific heart conditions and acceptance of the most ‘vulnerable’ conditions, such as heart failure
– Individualised counselling (holistic and psychological) and dietitian interventions as required,
– Motivational, educational and ‘community’ support from the Heartbeats group network
– Three-month and six-month check-ups after completion of the programme
– Full individual pre-test evaluation includes: measurement of aerobic and cardio-pulmonary capacity, electrocardiogram assessment, musculoskeletal, muscle strength and lung function assessment
